Davis Law Library
Discover New Zealand’s largest law library, with its impressive collection of approximately 130,000 printed volumes and 29,000 microforms.
The Davis Law Library’s collection focuses on the five principal Common Law jurisdictions – Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States. Some other areas are also available.
You’ll find many electronic services and access is provided to about 800 bibliographic databases. These databases are networked to University members both on and off campus, plus other specialist legal databases. There’s also an extensive collection of over 87,000 e-journals and 343,000 electronic books.
Student Facilities and Training
Major legal databases currently available include LexisNexis, Westlaw.com, Brookers Online and HeinOnline.
Subject librarians are available and offer research consultations, assistance and current awareness services.
If enrolled you’ll have access to these services:
- Print, audio-visual and microform collections
- Borrowing facilities, information services, interlibrary loan and document delivery
- Library web pages and electronic resources (in libraries, at other campus locations and off-campus via authorised dial-in facilities)
- Intercampus Library Delivery Service (ICLDS)
- Study and group discussion facilities
- Photocopying and computer printing facilities.
Bell Gully Computer Laboratory
A training facility for electronic legal research within the Davis Law Library, which has 15 computers, a data projector, video and sound equipment.
An extensive range of courses all year plus:
- group tutorials for generic law databases
- individual tuition for specialist databases
- cross-disciplinary database training.
You’re welcome to use the laboratory for research when it is not needed for training.
Law Online Computer Suite
For student research, containing 16 computers and printing facilities.
A new computer suite with 28 computers for law student research and writing, situated on the mezzanine floor of the Davis Law Library. Scanning and printing facilities are provided.
If you are a postgraduate law student, you’ll have access to our specialist IT services and our supervised lab of 28 computers within the library. There are computers in the library dedicated to postgraduate students, and also in the Postgraduate Common Room. Additionally, you can bring your laptop and use our Wi-Fi for Internet access. The University provides all postgraduate students with email accounts and laser printing facilities.
