Available to students for the Research year of their Masters degree or PhD, who are active in the community.

Available to American citizens. Recommendation from proposed supervisor required.

Shirtcliffe Fellowships

Available to doctoral candidates who are graduates of a NZ university. Assessment based on academic merit, character and capacity for leadership, and financial need.

William Georgetti Scholarship

Available for Masters or PhD study. Assessment based on academic merit, research area and moral character.

Gordon Watson Scholarship

Applicants must be a NZ Citizen or permanent resident, with an Honours degree from a New Zealand university, and intending to study a masters or doctorate in Europe, Asia or the USA.

Claude McCarthy Fellowship

Available to graduates of a New Zealand university, enrolled in a PhD programme at a New Zealand university. Supports overseas travel for research or research presentations.

Externally administered scholarships

New Zealand Development Scholarship (NZDS)

The purpose of the scholarships is for candidates to gain knowledge and skills through post-graduate study in specific subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country. Awardees are required to return to their home country for at least two years after the completion of their scholarship to apply these new skills and knowledge in government, civil society, or private business organisations.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships

The New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) are funded by the New Zealand Government. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic merit. The NZIDRS provides full tuition fees, plus living and other allowances for successful applicants. Up to ten scholarships are awarded each year.

Yvonne A M Smith Charitable Trust Scholarship

The scholarship is intended for the advancement of the education of women graduates who wish to embark upon Masters or Doctoral studies with preference being given to the subject areas of political studies, economics, business and law. Preference will also be given to applicants who demonstrate potential for leadership and potential to make a significant contribution to New Zealand.
