Donations for Samoa measles outbreak

Samoa is currently facing a measles epidemic, and has declared a state of emergency.

As of today (5 December 2019) more than 4,000 measles cases have been reported, with 62 confirmed deaths to date, most of those young children. One family tragically lost all three of their children to measles in the space of a week.

How the University is helping

The Auckland-based natural products company Pure Alofa is organising shipments of essential supplies to Samoa.

A collection has been started on behalf of our University of Auckland ‘aiga, and staff have been donating essential items such as mattresses, towels, masks and hand sanitisers to help those fighting the crisis. The donated items will be sent on to Pure Alofa on 6 December 2019 for shipping to Samoa.
