Candidate: Quinn Cooper
Read why Quinn Cooper would like to represent students on the University of Auckland Council.

I am currently in my second year, studying a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Commercial Law and Economics. This semester, I am the Class Representative for my Macroeconomics and Competition Law courses. I work at a Finance company as a Lending Specialist part-time alongside performing casual copy/legal writing work for a business consultant. I am also working on publishing a Philosophical review note on Apperception and understanding. Despite my current workload, fulfilling my responsibilities to the best of my ability will become my first priority as Student Representative next year.
The most valuable commodity anyone possesses is time. My main priority as Student Representative would be to increase the efficiency of the University. I can already see many misgivings regarding Inspera examinations and Canvas functionality that can be easily fixed given the correct implementation, which I believe I can provide. I am more than capable of listening to students’ potential misgivings and genuine ideas about their courses and the University overall. I also have a plethora of personal experience in transcribing new ideas and issues into a persuasive, polite and easily communicable form in meetings. I love getting to know students around the University and genuinely enjoy listening, engaging and helping to answer students’ queries and abating their worries.
Communicating with the teaching staff is an easy task for me. As a Class Rep, I have been creating course evaluation surveys and drafting reports based on the responses. This allows me to convey the pro’s and con’s concerning lectures and tutorials in a non-confrontational manner and gauge general class engagement as well. Increasing engagement in the community is another priority that I will have as student representative, particularly regarding diversity. I will ensure this priority is imperatively focused on by promoting inclusive events on campus, as well as encouraging students to create their own Facebook groups and new clubs. I understand the importance of academic integrity and quality, particularly regarding research. I will strive to uphold our University as the epitome of quality research and integrity by creating regular announcements. These would strongly advise staff and students of the importance of integrity and learning how to think and write effectively, alongside promoting original thought. These would also aim to persuade students to make the most of their University journey via meaningful engagement with their fellow classmates. I look forward to representing all of the amazing students enrolled in the University of Auckland in 2023.
