What is Metrogaine?
Metrogaine (noun): A form of rogaining held in an urban area.
Rogaining: A sport of cross-country navigation, involving both route planning and navigation between checkpoints using a variety of map types.
Metrogaine is an annual University of Auckland event designed to link the four inner-city campuses and the highlights of Auckland city through urban navigation.
The event is free for all and suits all fitness levels- you can run, jog or walk in your teams of four people in either the one hour or two hour category
You will be presented with a map of the area a few minutes before the event starts, as well as instructions on how to download and use the app, Maprunners. Both the map and app will show you where all the checkpoints are as well as the numbers of points each checkpoint is worth. The aim of the game is to collect the most points and still make it to the finish line within the designated time. It's up to you to strategise!
This event is a great way to do some team building, explore Auckland, get your daily steps up and socialise with your mates. Dress ups are encouraged, plus there are prizes for our category winners and spot prizes. Free food and drinks will be provided at the finish line chill-out zone.
