Centre for Biodiversity and Biosecurity
We are a partnership between Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research and the University, fostering quality collaboration and high-impact environmental research.
The Centre for Biodiversity and Biosecurity develops solutions to protect and enhance New Zealand's biodiversity by providing world-leading research and training.
The Centre partners with external agencies to leverage funding, contributing to developing the next generation of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The Centre engages with iwi and Māori organisations.
We focus on emerging issues in biosecurity and biodiversity, with established active research programmes, postgraduate training and education, and training opportunities for a range of audiences.
Biosecurity is a major and growing concern for New Zealand. Biological invasion is recognised as a major threat to our native biodiversity. With expertise from Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research and the University, we provide new opportunities around existing areas of research and a strong platform to take advantage of funding opportunities.
These interactions are leading to innovative approaches in biosecurity, biodiversity and biosystematics research that will enhance the capacity, efficiency and quality of biodiversity management, conservation, and biosecurity.
