Auditory processing research - participants needed for neuroimaging study

Participants are needed for our neuroimaging study to better understand Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) experienced by young school-aged children.

Auditory processing research

We are looking for children to participate in our neuroimaging study to investigate links between children's hearing abilities and their brain organization. This will enable us to better understand Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) experienced by young school-aged children.

What’s involved?

  • Participation will require one or two visits depending on your availability, with a duration of two hours in total.
  • Children will complete a hearing test assessment and an MRI scan to record brain activity.
  • Participants (including parents) will be reimbursed $30 in vouchers to help with travel costs.

Eligibility criteria

Children:

  • aged between nine and thirteen years old
  • who are native English speakers or fluent in English
  • with no hearing difficulties
  • or diagnosed with APD.

However, your child will be excluded if they have:

  • any implants in their body
  • braces.

Lego model of MRI machine
We familiarize your children about the concepts of the MRI scan with LEGO bricks. MRI is a large tunnel, like a long doughnut, which is actually a camera with a tunnel going through the middle. It takes pictures of the inside of your child’s body.
