Teaching Catalyst Programme
Career development opportunities designed especially for recently appointed academic staff.
The Teaching Catalyst introduces newly appointed academic staff to teaching at the University of Auckland and is required as part of the continuation process for anyone who is new to teaching at a tertiary level (also recommended for seasoned academics new to the University of Auckland) - see HR Continuation Policy. The programme comprises three full days and three 2-hour seminars and is offered twice per year (February and July).
The three-day introduction takes place just before the beginning of semester. It covers key concepts and strategies involved in university teaching and learning with a focus on developing teacher and teaching presence.
Three short seminars (Documenting Your Teaching) follow and they occur during semester. The seminars address constructing an effective and persuasive teaching portfolio for continuation or promotion, making use of supporting evidence from student evaluations, focus groups and peer observations of teaching.
The Documenting Your Teaching seminars are included in the Teaching Catalyst Programme but seasoned academics may choose to attend these sessions only.
