Open Access publishing

There are two ways in which works can be made openly available – gratis and libre.

Gratis OA refers to the removal of price barriers alone and libre OA refers to the removal of price and at least some permission barriers. A typical funder mandate requires gratis OA. Some OA journals provide libre OA, but others provide only gratis OA.
