Academic unit and disciplinary area reviews

Academic units with responsibilities for teaching and research are reviewed by a panel with external and internal membership within a seven to eight-year cycle. Approximately six-eight reviews are carried out each year. These reviews are chaired by a senior member of the academic staff of the University.

In 2013, the former departmental review system and guidelines were replaced by a new external review system for academic units and disciplinary areas. The first reviews under the revised system took place in 2014.

Review reports and implementation

External review reports and an implementation plan prepared by the Academic Head are submitted for consideration by Research Committee, Education Committee, Senate and Council.

One year after its consideration of the initial review report, a status report on progress against the implementation plan is submitted to Education Committee. The status report may also be reviewed by Research Committee as needed.

Implementation plans and year-on status reports must be submitted on the appropriate templates.
