Exams for students studying remotely

Semester One and Two, and Quarter One to Four Exams 2021

All summative examinations in Semesters 1 and 2 and Quarters 1 to 4 2021 will be designed and conducted as online, non-invigilated, time-limited examinations. Exemptions may apply. More details are available in the University’s policy statement.

Inspera Online Assessments will be used for examination design and delivery, however please note that there may be some exceptions. If you are unsure, please check with your lecturer.

Examinations will be scheduled as per the exam timetable.

Your exam timetable

Please follow these instructions on how to view your timetable. The timetable is published in New Zealand Time (NZDT).

Please check your timetable on Student Services Online. You are required to sit your exam at the published New Zealand (NZDT) time.

If you have conflicting exam times please check the criteria online for alternative exam times or locations.

Applications to move an exam time must be made by 4 February 2021 (application fee may be waived depending on circumstances).

Sitting your exam

On the day of the exam, ensure you have a quiet study space set up, with good internet connection.

Time granted for the completion of online examinations will be extended by 30 minutes to allow for reading time and the complexity of online modes of completing and submitting examination answers.

For a two-hour exam, you will have two-and-a half hours to complete and submit your exam, or three-and-a-half hours for a three-hour exam.

Inspera Exams

Examinations in Semesters 1 and 2, and Quarters 1 to 4 will be held in Inspera and can be accessed directly through a link in Canvas.

Alternatively you can access your exam through the Inspera website and logging in through SSO using your University user name and password.

In limited circumstances you may be advised that your examination will be in Canvas. Please confirm with your lecturer if you are unsure.

Canvas Exams

If you have been told that your exam will be held through Canvas, your exam will be available during your timetabled exam window. You may need to refresh the Assignment page at your exam start time.

Please allow at least 10 minutes to submit your exam on Canvas. After submission you should check that you submitted the correct document. If you experience technical difficulties with a Canvas exam, or if you are unable to upload your document, you will need to submit by attaching your exam as a comment. Canvas exam instructions will include information on how to do this.

If you submit your exam after the finish time, this will be flagged as a late submission and penalties may be applied at the discretion of the examiner. Please do not contact your examiner. All correspondence relating to exams should be via the Student Contact Centre.
