Covid-19 Update | Move to Online Study

Kia ora,

In her 1.00pm statement today, the Prime Minister reconfirmed that Auckland will be in Alert Level 3 for a period of seven days. The rest of New Zealand, including our Tai Tokerau campus in Whangārei, will be in Alert Level 2 for the same period. More details are available on the Government's 'Unite against Covid-19' website.

The timing of this change is unfortunate, just as we are welcoming students for the start of Semester One. I know there will be a sense of real disappointment among students and staff alike. Please take good care of yourselves and your whānau during this period of uncertainty.

The move to Alert Level 3 has significant implications for all University activities this week, which I would like to summarise for you.

Access to campus

  • At Alert Level 3 the University is required to move its activities online and our campuses are closed with only essential access permitted. The only exception to this is our Tai Tokerau campus in Whangārei, which is in Alert Level 2 with the rest of the country.
  • For those students who do not have a suitable study environment or equipment at home, limited space in the Kate Edger Information Commons (KEIC) at City Campus will be open to enable access a quiet study space or a computer.

Teaching and learning

  • The main source of information for all of your courses is Canvas - your teachers will be communicating with you through Canvas so please check Canvas regularly for updates on your class information.

Support Services

Student support services have moved to online delivery in Alert Level 3.

Exams and invigilated tests

  • Examinations in Semester One, Quarter One and Quarter Two will be held online, regardless of the alert level. There will be some exceptions, particularly for courses requiring professional accreditation, and students in these courses will be informed about the mode of their examinations.
  • Invigilated tests will be held on campus if the University is at Alert Level 1.

Please continue to practise good hand hygiene, stay home if you are unwell, and if you have cold and flu symptoms contact your doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice.

If you have any questions about Alert Level 3 or the University's arrangements, please email coronavirus@auckland.ac.nz or contact AskAuckland.
