Postponed Spring 2021 Graduation

Important update

Graduation ceremonies at Red and Orange settings:

At the Orange traffic light setting, current guidance from the Government on large-scale events such as this is as follows:

  • You do not need to wear face masks outdoors.
  • If you are attending a gathering or event, you do not need to wear a face mask either indoors or outdoors.
  • Workers and volunteers at indoor events must wear face masks - unless they are exempt.

There is no government mandate that attendees at events must wear a mask, but the University strongly encourages you and your guests to wear a mask at this high-attendance event.

The new date is Wednesday 3 August 2022.

Please note: it is now past the time to defer your application to a future date but you can change your application to graduate in absentia.

If you have applied to graduate in person and intend to continue to graduate in person:

You do not need to do anything to your application. We will 'roll-over' your application to the new date. All you need to do is ensure your guests are aware of this change and let them know the new date when this is available. Please also ensure they know we will follow any government guidelines for health and safety which might include a requirement to be vaccinated and/or wear masks etc.

If you have told us after 14 March that you wish to change your graduation from in person to in absentia:

You do not need to do anything. Your digital graduation certificate will be made available to you within 3-5 days of the ceremony.

If you have applied to graduate in person but are unable to attend the new date:

To ask to have your application changed to 'in absentia,' please email us on graduation@auckland.ac.nz.

The process above will then apply and you will graduate in absentia on 3 August.
