Keeping motivated in your job search and career goals
The team at Career Development and Employability Services (CDES) has some tips for feeling calm and confident during these changing times.
COVID-19 continues to have a number of impacts on all aspects of our lives both positively and negatively. This includes employment and the economy. Some people might be worried about unstable income, lack of job security, and even be at a bit of a loss about their future career prospects. The team at CDES are here to offer guidance and support through this time, and can help you to find your direction.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
- What parts of myself do I want to grow and develop today?
- What steps will I take to do this?
Taking a few moments each morning to reflect upon your intention for the day can give you focus and get you excited about the day ahead. It will become your anchor and motivate you to keep your attention on helpful actions, even when you encounter difficulties and uncertainty in your job search.
Although you may not be clear on some of your ‘big’ career goals, taking a step-by-step approach prevents you feeling overwhelmed and is a great way to ensure that you are becoming more of who you want to be every day.
See below for a Career Action Plan for you to jot down your ideas. It will help you understand what some of your goals are and what steps you might take next. Don’t worry if you have lots of gaps in it, or are not sure what to do – that’s what our online resources, career coaching groups and personalised sessions will help you with!
Here’s a short clip from our Finding your Career Direction online module about some of the other benefits of being in the “driver’s seat” of your career (and life!)
