Man Lu is a Chinese Scholarship Council scholar. She is in her second year of PhD studies in Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland.
“My education background is in clinical medicine, and I am very interested in the development of health science. My research project focuses on developing novel small molecule drugs inhibiting the function of the growth hormone receptor, which may benefit future therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.
“In 2017 I attended Queenstown Research Week – New Zealand’s biggest annual scientific gathering – and was excited to win the Medi'Ray Best Student Presentation Award, given out by the New Zealand Society of Endocrinology during the MedSci Congress for the best oral presentation of student research.”
The University of Auckland is one of the top universities in the world, and my supervisor is very supportive. The University makes international students feel welcome, with so many support options available, such as the International Office and the Postgraduate Students’ Association.
“After graduation I would like to be a researcher and continue my investigation into the improvement of human health and cancer treatment. The University provides an excellent platform for study and research, with advanced technology, brilliant scientists, and world-leading research centres. My scholarship has given me the opportunity to gain advanced knowledge and improve my professional skills.
“If you would like to broaden your vision and improve yourself as well as experiencing cultures from all over the world, the University of Auckland is definitely your choice!”
