Scholarships for Study Abroad
The International Office at the University of Auckland works with a variety of external agencies and government bodies to provide scholarship opportunities for international students who meet admission entry criteria.
There is a wide range of scholarships available across all faculties and study levels. US federal financial aid also applies.
University of Auckland Study Abroad Scholarship
As a Generation Study Abroad commitment partner, the University of Auckland gives 100 Study Abroad scholarships of NZ$1,295 per year through our US partnerships.
Go Overseas New Zealand Study Abroad Scholarship (US & Europe only)
Go Overseas and Education New Zealand have committed to offer a full New Zealand study abroad scholarship each year.
USA Scholarships: Worth US$15,000, the 2018 scholarship includes round trip flights to New Zealand, travel insurance, and semester tuition fee. Applicants must be US citizens or hold US Resident status.
The University of Auckland offers five additional NZ$1000 scholarships for students who apply for this scholarship but do not receive the main prize.
Europe Scholarships: Worth EU$12,500, the 2018 scholarship includes round trip flights to New Zealand and semester tuition fee. Applicants must be EU citizens or hold EU Resident status.
Applications for the next round (for students looking to study in 2019) are open through 12 October 2018.

Diversity Abroad & University of Auckland Scholarship
Partnering with Diversity Abroad, the University of Auckland offers two scholarships of US$7,500 to US students who fall into diversity criteria in 2018.
Additional scholarships of NZ$1,000 are available to students who apply but are not selected.
Fund for Education Abroad - University of Auckland Access Partner Scholarship
As an access partner through the Fund for Education Abroad, the University of Auckland offers scholarships of up to US$5,000 to help support minority and first-generation US study abroad students.
Generation Study Abroad Excellence and Travel Awards (US only)
Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions are supporting Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. Applicants must be a US citizen or hold US Resident status.
Education New Zealand Study Abroad Travel Awards (ENZTA) offer US$2,000 to help students fund their flight to New Zealand.
Generation Study Abroad New Zealand Universities Excellence Awards (NZUEA) offer US$500 for study at one of the eight New Zealand universities.
Upfront Auckland Scholarships for students applying through IFSA-Butler
Partnering with IFSA-Butler, scholarships from NZ$5,000 to $7,000 are available for IFSA-Butler University of Auckland students only.
The scholarship is used towards the program deposit (NZ$500), round-trip airfare to New Zealand, and the remainder of the scholarship will be disbursed as cash to be used for personal expenses upon arrival in New Zealand.
You must be a student who has applied to attend the IFSA-Butler University of Auckland semester or year-long program. Preference is given to high financial need students.
University of Auckland Scholarships for students applying through IES Abroad
IES Abroad awards four scholarships of up to NZ$7,000 for IES Abroad students to study at the University of Auckland.
University of Auckland Scholarships for students applying through The Education Abroad Network
Choose Earth Scholarship
This USD$2,000 scholarship is for students majoring in a field related to environmental science, environmental management or sustainability.
People & Place Scholarship
This USD$2,000 scholarship is for students who enrol in two classes at the University of Auckland relating to Māori or Pacific studies, or New Zealand history and culture
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Education New Zealand offers additional Gilman scholarships for US students to study abroad in New Zealand. Multiple awards offered every year and award amounts vary up to USD$5,000.
Financial Aid (United States Federal District Loans)
Students can use Financial Aid for their study abroad semester. Please check the details with your home university or the Office of Federal Student Aid.
