About Jiangyin and Nanjing
University of Auckland students will be based at NJUST's Jiangyin campus, to the southeast of Nanjing City.
Only 160 kms from Shanghai and 180 kms from Nanjing, Jiangyin is a beautiful city with the Yangtze River to the north and Taihu Lake to the south. It is an important transportation hub and plays a crucial role in river to sea transport. In 2020, Jiangyin City was named as one of China's top 100 scholarly cities.
Nanjing City itself is a renowned historical and cultural city and is an important centre for commerce and trade in Eastern China. It has many historical sites including the Ming tombs that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. With a current urban population of approximately 5 million people, Nanjing also has a cosmopolitan, fast-paced city centre for students to explore.
Many significant monuments and landmarks remain from Nanjing’s time as the capital of China during the Ming dynasty, including Zhonghua Gate, a preserved 14th-century section of the massive wall that contained the old city’s southern entrance.
