Diagnostic tests

After you have completed your online application, you must come to the University to sit diagnostic tests in English and Maths.

  • The English test involves multi-choice questions in comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, and some personal writing.
  • The Maths test is set at approximately the level of a Maths student in Years 11-12 in a New Zealand high school.  

Before the tests

Please ensure you have applied online and submitted all required admission documents to the Admissions Office in the ClockTower.

Applications remain open until the date of the last tests. We will update you by email once you have applied.

Attending a Diagnostic Testing Session

  • You do not need an appointment and there is no cost. You simply attend at the appointed venue, date and time. See Next Diagnostic Testing Session.
  • You need your University of Auckland Student ID number.
  • Bring a pen.
  • Bring a passport-sized photo to attach to your tests. This is separate from any photo you send with your Citizenship/PR documents.
  • Calculators or dictionaries are not allowed
  • All cellphones must be switched off.

Referee report

At the tests you will be given a Referee Report Form. If you are called back for an interview you must give the form to your chosen referee for them to complete. They must not give the form to you. They must scan and email the as soon as possible to our office.   

What happens after the tests?

We will email you to either:

  • offer a follow-up interview
  • advise your of the outcome of your application.

Interview

Interviews are not held on the same day as the tests. You will need to be available during the following days/weeks.

Special conditions

If you require special conditions, such as extra time or you wish to sit alone, please email us prior to your session.

Please make yourself known to the people in charge on the day of the tests to inform them of your prior request.

Entry into Semester Two 2017

We always admit a few students each year in Semester Two, in July. It takes one year from commencement date to achieve the TFC and its University Entrance qualification status. We strongly advise that it is better to start in any given Semester One.

Tests for consideration of entry in Semester 2, 2017 will be publicised in due course, around May/June 2017.

Tests for consideration of entry in Semester 1, 2017 will be on Monday, 5 December 2016. This is only for those who have been away from school for at least 1 year and more. Another testing session will be held on Thursday, 26 January  2017 once high school results are known. This test is for ALL, including 2016 Year 13 school leavers as well as applicants who have been away from school for at least one year and more.
