The Andrew S. J. Yap Prize was established in 2013 by Andrew S.J. Yap, who is a oenologist and wine educator in New Zealand, Australia, South-East Asia and Hong Kong. Andrew has taught Wine Science at tertiary institutions for 36 years, including an appointment as Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry (as it was then known) from 2003 to 2012.

The main purpose of the Prize is to recognise the student who has demonstrated the highest level of sensory skill in the sensory evaluation component of WINESCI 704, Sensory Evaluation and Statistical Methods.
