The Scholarships were established in 2009 and are funded by the MSA Charitable Trust.
The main purpose of the Scholarships is to fund postgraduate students who are enrolled or who have been offered a place on the PhD programme at the University of Auckland Business School to undertake research on a topic which is judged by the selection committee to advance the research agenda of the New Zealand Asia Institute. The theme of the research should focus on the business relationship between New Zealand and Asia and research findings should have beneficial implications for New Zealand economy, business or government.
