Structure and Art: application of Bamboo
The tall Hutt project is a collaborative project to create a pavilion for the Sculpture on the Gulf festival 2024. The project is in the concept phase and proposes to use bamboo elements as cladding and potentially as a structural element. To achieve these, more certainty around the material properties and likely connection capacities is required. To use this material within the New Zealand context we are proposing to undertake material and connection testing to inform the design. The project will work with practicing Engineers on a live project, as well as testing in the Structures materials testing lab. Prerequisite: Ideally in the BE structures programme.
