How a graduate role led to a dream job at Deloitte!
Adriana Hitch, Deloitte’s Graduate Talent Acquisition Advisor shares her top 3 tips for students applying for graduate roles; as well as insights about her role at Deloitte, where she started as a graduate!
"At Deloitte, our purpose is to make an impact that matters. We’re driven by our desire to create positive outcomes for our clients, community and people. Everything we do is with intent – to make a meaningful difference. When students ask us “What’s different about Deloitte?” we like to keep the answer simple: the impact we make.
"My role at Deloitte is the Graduate Talent Acquisition Advisor; which means I’m responsible for recruiting Grads and Interns across the country. This can include representing Deloitte at recruitment events, public speaking, social media, organising and hosting recruitment events, coordinating marketing projects; as well as planning and executing recruitment strategy and process. I’ve been at Deloitte just over 2 years now, and came in as a grad myself!
“As one of the largest professional services firms across the globe, our services are as diverse as the graduates and interns we hire. From cybersecurity and tech innovation, through to accounting and advisory; we’re looking ahead and building industries of the future. We’re currently recruiting for Audit & Assurance, Consulting, Risk Advisory, Tax & Private and Corporate Finance; with applications closing Monday 16 March. Check out our graduate website for more info and to apply.
"When hiring new graduates, working through job applications and interviews; there are 3 things that stand out the most to me:
- Research, research, research! I love seeing students demonstrating why they want to work both for Deloitte and in the role they’re applying for. It’s always really impressive hearing a student talk about work we have done in the marketplace, as well as why they want to join a particular team.
- Resilience: Resilience is a key skill we look for during the process. It can be tough to work here, so having a student demonstrate how they have been resilient in the past is always impressive!
- Being critical of us. Both the application process and interviews are a chance for you to find out more about the organisation and determine whether this will be the right workplace for you. Ask questions about things you care about in a role; like “What is the company culture like?”, “How many people are in the team?”, “What’s my manager like and their working style?” Articulating why you think the business would be a good fit for you during an interview is powerful; and shows you are a considered candidate.”
