What is it like working for your organisation and was it what you expected or was it different?
The type of work that’s done on a day to day basis has a heavy focus on stakeholder consultation and data analysis, which isn’t too different to what I expected. The scale of work, however, is much larger as everything we do is linked to those in New Zealand and this can be quite humbling to realise.
What advice would you give to students wanting to take part in an internship/graduate programme?
Be confident and understand that a lot of the learning happens on the job. You are not expected to know everything so don’t hold back from applying!
Start building a portfolio of any projects or project-like work that you may have done while studying or as a hobby. This is a great way to showcase your skills!
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years’ time?
I see myself using the knowledge and experience that I have gathered in this field to feed into a career as a data scientist or in an advisory role.
