GSK Graduate Profile
Meet GSK at the 2019 CDES Internship Career Expo on 1 August!
- Bachelor of Commerce – Information Systems & Operations and Supply Chain Management
- Supply Chain Associate, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)
What is it like working for GSK and was it what you expected or was it different?
Working as a supply chain associate for GlaxoSmithKline has been amazing. The role itself was a great place to make a start to my career and has helped me develop skills I can take onto future roles. The biggest benefit to working at GSK is that it operates on a global level, therefore it allows you to work with various factions of the supply chain on an international scale to deliver life-saving products that make a difference. The operational work itself was somewhat expected from my time at University. The actual tasks completed were very similar to what was taught at University in the Supply Chain Management courses – just on a much larger scale.
What advice would you give to students wanting to take part in an internship/graduate programme?
Internship/graduate programmes are as much benefit to you as they are to the organisation. No one expects you to be fluent at the job when you first start, it’s a learning experience - so make the most out of the programme, take initiative to complete work to the best of your ability and leave a lasting impression. The skills you learn during the programme build a great foundation for you to start your career and the internal and external relationships you build throughout offer great networking opportunities that could benefit the development of your career.
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years’ time?
In 5-10 years’ time I’d love to see my career progress in this line of work to a more strategically challenging role in the supply chain – such as demand planning. Personally, I’d like to be in a role that allows me to develop a deeper understanding on complex supply chains, lead projects, and take on managerial responsibilities. Overall, I’d love to see the work I complete on a daily basis make a positive change on those lives on those around me.
