Annyssia Gonsalves

  • Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Commerce Conjoint (Psychology, Marketing and Management)

"When I finished high school I wasn’t completely sure what I wanted to study. I considered everything from optometry to economics to marketing. I was always interested in a career working with people, so as one of my first part-time jobs during university I worked in the private healthcare sector and this helped to put into perspective and refine the direction in which I wanted my career to head. They’ve helped me to put into practice some of the things I learned and approach common workplace problems with a different perspective.

All the different work experiences I’ve had during my degree have been an invaluable supplement towards my academic studies.

"I was able to change and fine tune my career and study plans towards my interest in working with people at a broader organisational level. This led me towards applying for a graduate role at KiwiRail after completing my degree. Being both a corporate and state owned organisation it gives new graduates an understanding of the bottom line demands of a commercial firm but with the broader societal purpose of a public sector organisation. Gaining exposure to different business units within KiwiRail is a unique and important part of the graduate program and something that I know will be valuable towards any career that I pursue within the organisation in the future"
