Bachelor of Education (Teaching)

The BEd(Tchg) prepares graduates to teach in primary and intermediate schools and leads to registration as a teacher. This a University degree taught on the MIT Campus and at the University’s Epsom Campus.

Pathways into the BEd(Tchg)

Students who have a University Entrance qualification may apply for admission.

MIT Foundation Education Programme

If you have completed this programme you may be able to apply for:

  • special admission to the BEd(Tchg) if you are over 20
  • discretionary entrance to the BEd(Tchg) if you are under 20.

All applicants must be able to demonstrate they have the potential to meet the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand criteria for provisional registration and have a police check. Suitable applicants are offered an interview prior to final selection.

To be awarded the degree you must pass 360 points:

  • 345 points from courses available in a degree specialisation
  • 15 points from an approved course in General Education
