Mathematics Education is designed for mathematics teachers who wish to study and research their classroom practice. It brings together research, mathematical knowledge and professional experience to develop critical approaches to mathematics teaching and learning.

What you will learn

  • Gives insight into classroom practice and provides an introduction to research in mathematics education (including statistics education).
  • Flexible structure: The two taught courses can be chosen from a large array of mathematics-related courses in the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Education
  • Projects are supervised by research staff and will be related to, and conducted in, the workplace.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Master of Professional Studies - Mathematics Education will be better able to be senior practitioners in mathematics education at primary, secondary or tertiary level, and to take on positions of responsibility that involve mentoring other teaching staff. In particular, it is expected that graduates will be suited for Lead Teacher or HOD Mathematics roles in secondary schools.
