Pasifika Early Childhood Education

Overview

By specialising your teaching around Pasifika ECE you can help to increase the involvement of Pacific Island under-five-year-olds in quality early childhood education. By embracing Pacific values in your teaching you can help young Pacific learners and their families to engage and benefit from early childhood services that meet their educational and cultural aspirations.

Areas of study

You will learn through theory and practice how young children learn, grow and develop with specific reference to young Pacific learners. You will study subjects that are part of the early childhood curriculum document Te Whaariki, such as technology, language, mathematics, social science and the arts. You will develop your knowledge of literacy, numeracy and Pasifika language and culture. Courses within the programme embrace the different cultures and heritage of Pasifika people and in some courses, both English and the Pasifika languages are used as mediums of instruction.
