Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology contributes to teaching a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate medical and scientific programmes within the University of Auckland, including MBChB III - V, BOptom, Fellowships, FRANZCO (Part II Examinations), SHO, BSc, BTech, MSc, PhD, and Summer Studentships.

Areas of study

Research in the department is broadly based with an emphasis on tissue repair, tissue engineering, genetics and diseases of the eye. The department has an emphasis on translational research, combining laboratory science with clinical research. Opportunities are available to undertake research focused on experimental cell and molecular biology and tissue biology, through to clinically linked studies of specific eye diseases. The department has a high publication rate and student research is aimed at publication in international journals.
