Bachelor of Design students
Semester One:
- DESIGN 200 and 201
- One Design elective, or
- a General Education course if this requirement has not already been met
Semester Two:
- Four Design electives
You need to take a total of 165 points of electives in the BDes, and you can check your progress using My Programme Requirements. The BDes page has a degree structure diagram which can also be used to help you plan your studies.
Note: You can choose to take up to 30 points of elective courses outside of the DESIGN subject. At least 135 points must be from the DESIGN 210-243 electives to meet the degree requirements.
Bachelor of Design conjoint students
As part of your conjoint, you need to complete:
- DESIGN 200, 201, and
- 90 points of Design electives (DESIGN 210 - 243)
You can take the Design electives across your conjoint degree, and placement will depend on the course requirements and structure of the programme on the other side of your conjoint. You should use My Programme Requirements and conjoint degree planning information for guidance, and if you have any questions, contact the Student Hubs.
DESIGN 200 - Design Methods and Processes 2
- Course prescription: A studio-based course in which students learn new design methods and technologies. Students also develop customised design strategies in response to real-world challenges. By working on a detailed case study, students learn to address issues that affect local communities. Students present their design solutions, learn to pitch design concepts, and evaluate potential outcomes.

- Prerequisites: DESIGN 100, 101
- Points: 30
DESIGN 201 - Creative Communities
- Course prescription: Introduces how the digital revolution has empowered people to organise themselves, collaborate and co-operate in non-hierarchical, creative ways. Students will explore the role of designers as catalysts for bottom-up, self-determined and distributed creativity within this scenario. They will learn to design for purpose and positive impact, co-creating open and resilient systems within their local communities.
