Madison Golightly - Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary)
Studying the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) has allowed Madison to pursue her passions for dance to help empower our younger generation.
"I have been involved in the dance industry for over 15 years, across multiple genres. I have experienced the benefits that dance brings into an individual's life. My goal as a teacher is to make dance an enjoyable, accessible and positive experience for every learner, regardless of age, gender or ability.
"I see dance as an avenue for learners to grow their confidence and make sense of the world around them, through the use of a creative outlet. It’s a great contributor to wellbeing and I feel it's important to provide learners with as many opportunities as possible to be able to develop a sense of resilience and be able to cope with the stresses that life throws at them.
My goal as a teacher is to make dance an enjoyable, accessible and positive experience for every learner, regardless of age, gender or ability.
"I decided to complete the Graduate diploma in Secondary teaching as I have a desire to empower young people to become the best they can be. I want to be able to use dance as a tool to create a community and environment where students feel safe to express themselves and where students are given the opportunity to explore the positive benefits that dance has to offer.
"The Auckland University lecturers provide us with constant support while we are out on practicum. They always give us advice around different lesson plans, ideas and share their stories with us. Our lecturers provide us with the confidence to trust in ourselves and learn from our mistakes.
"I would recommend this programme to anyone who wants to make a positive impact upon our next generation."
