About us

Within the School of Medical Sciences, the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre (ACSRC) contributes to leading research in understanding mechanisms of disease, genetic determinants of medicine sensitivity and the tumour microenvironment.

Since its inception in 1956, the centre has advanced 18 novel cancer therapeutics into clinical trial. The ACSRC also has the distinction of being the first laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere to discover, trial and bring anti-cancer medicines into clinical use.

The centre conducts research into understanding mechanisms of disease, genetic determinants of drug sensitivity and the tumor microenvironment and has an established track record in developing new treatments for microbial diseases such as tuberculosis.  The ASCRC is jointly managed by the University of Auckland and Cancer Society Auckland Northland.

Postgraduate and Doctoral students have the opportunity to gain experience within the centre as part of a high-functioning, collaborative, and multidisciplinary research team, working in state-of-the-art research facilities and with specialised equipment.
