General information
Electricity is an incredible power source. It's also an unseen killer if it's not used responsibly or if equipment is not constantly checked and maintained.
Become familiar with the University's policy around electrical appliance testing. Be sure that you also read the guidelines for electrical safety, which is included towards the end of the document.
The electrical safety checklist provides a useful auditing compliance tool, ensuring that the equipment complies with the University's established procedures.
The documents and policy above will not cover every individual electrical safety installation or safety concern. Users should also consult relevant legislation, NZ Standards and best practice documents.
The following agencies can assist with electrical queries and provide further information:
- Energy Safety, WorkSafe
- Electrical Workers Registration Board
- Building Performance (Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment)
For further information about electrical safety, you can download New Zealand standards from the University's library.
