Risk management and containment (BRMC): HSNO and Biosecurity Acts
To prevent potential biosecurity and biosafety risks, we have developed protocols to ensure the safe import, use, transfer and disposal of biological materials.
We encourage a high level of professionalism and good scientific practice to manage containment, while complying with Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) and Biosecurity Act requirements.
Work is carried out in University containment and transitional facilities.
Measured against international standards
The biological risk management and containment standard (BRMC) is an overarching standard that can be measured against international standards such as CEN 15793 and will satisfy standard controls on broad HSNO approvals.
Whether directing or participating in work that requires biological risk management and containment, the standard applies to all:
- University staff
- Contractors
- Visiting academics
- Students
