The Award was established in 2018 and is funded by generous match funding from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, thanks to a gift from an alumnus of the University of Auckland.

The intention of the Award is to support PhD and Doctor of Education students in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Auckland to attend educational conferences in Asia to present their research and undertake fieldwork.
