Three examination sessions per day
This page answers frequently asked questions about the University’s decision to introduce three exam sessions per day.
We need to better manage the scheduling process because of:
- Increasing numbers of student exams.
- A growing shortage of suitable exam rooms due to ongoing building renovations.
- Greater pressure on scheduling due to special scheduling requirements.
No. You will not have three consecutive exams in a day, or have three consecutive exams over two days that include an evening exam.
The Examinations Office will contact you at your student email address if this appears on your timetable.
No. We will only hold three exam sessions in one day at the City Campus.
No, we do not intend to schedule three exams every day.
The third session has a finishing time of 8pm, as evening exams will only be 2 hours long.
Every effort will be made to have evening exams only in centrally located buildings on the City Campus. Finishing at 8pm should allow you to access public transport. We are discussing safety and security with Unisafe, the University’s security service.
Yes. We have considered holding exams at other campuses, and have recently used the Tāmaki Campus. However, the seating capacity at the Tāmaki Campus is limited because the Grafton Campus is holding examinations there due to renovation work.
We have investigated using venues off-campus, but the cost is prohibitive. They are normally used for one-off events and would require large amounts of furniture.
