Postgraduate Research Student Support (PReSS)

The purpose of the PReSS (Postgraduate Research Student Support) scheme is to:

1. Assist postgraduate research students to undertake their research and complete in a timely manner.
2. Encourage supervisors/departments to take on further postgraduate research students in order to reach the University’s growth targets.

The University provides research support funding for doctoral students dependent on their doctoral subject area approved by the Board of Graduate Studies at the time of enrolment. The Tertiary Education Commission presently allocates funding bands that recognise the relative research costs for each doctoral subject area. These will be used as the basis for allocating funds. For those doctoral degrees with a taught component, funding will only be available during the supervised research component.

Doctoral students are provided an annual research fund and account to assist with their study.

The stipend is intended to help cover direct research costs and the amount is dependent on the doctoral subject area.
