Setting up new scholarships and prizes
Below is the process for setting up regulations for a new scholarship or prize.
Potential donors who wish to establish scholarships and prizes should first contact the Foundation Manager to discuss how to make their gift:
Richard Sorrenson
Phone: +64 9 373 7488
Email: r.sorrenson@auckland.ac.nz
In establishing a gift for a scholarship, the donor will want to have recorded the amount of the gift (and any schedule of payment), its purpose, and whether the gift is an annual payment or an endowment to fund the scholarship in the long run. The person who is dealing with the donor will need, at the appropriate time, to get the donor to consider a donation agreement which lays out the basics. Richard can either draw one up, or will check the final version before he signs it on behalf of the Foundation.
Step 1
Fill out the “Template for setting up a scholarship” document or “Template for setting up a prize” document (below) and return to:
Andrea Forster
Email: a.forster@auckland.ac.nz
Phone: +64 9 373 7599 ext 84921
Suggested minimum values are as follows:
- $1,000 for prizes
- $5,000 for scholarships
- $10,000+ for scholarships where selection includes an interview
Step 2
The draft regulations will proceed to the Scholarships Sub-committee (SSC) for approval. These meetings are held on a weekly basis. If changes are required Andrea will contact you regarding these.
Step 3
Once approved by the SSC regulations will proceed to the Education Committee for final approval. These meetings are held on a monthly basis. If changes are required Andrea will contact you regarding these.
Step 4
Once approved by the Education Committee, regulations will be formatted and, if a scholarship, placed on the Scholarships Website under "Search for Awards" and "News and Notices". Six weeks before the closing date the scholarship will be advertised as per the Scholarships Office advertising procedure.
