Cost of Attendance
The Cost of Attendance is the estimated cost a student may incur during an academic year while studying at The University of Auckland. The cost of attendance includes tuition fees, other study related fees and living cost. The cost of attendance covers an academic year and is reviewed annually.
The Cost of Attendance is calculated in New Zealand dollars and then converted into U.S. dollars at the time of eligibility assessment.
You are eligible to borrow loans up to your personal Cost of Attendance less Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) and Estimated Financial Assistance (EFA) such as grants, educational awards, scholarships or study-related employment.
The Cost of Attendance is allocated into the following categories:
2012 Cost of Attendance for US Federal Loan Recipients
| Living Allowance | NZD$469/week | The living allowance is based on single self catered bedroom for the University academic year/semester which includes the average cost of rent, utilities, grocery, personal expenses and local travel. No loan funding is given for the summer break or periods of non enrolment. |
| Tuition and Fees | Programme dependent | The tuition fees are dependent on your programme of study. There is no limit to the tuition fees that can be included in the cost of attendance. |
| Books and Supplies | NZD$1,000 | Allowance is identical for all students regardless of programme of study. No allowance is given for the cost of a personal computer as computers are free to use on campus. |
| Return flight | NZD$2,500 | Contribution to the cost of a return flight to the US is included in the cost of attendance each year. Australian and New Zealand Citizens/Permanent Residence are not eligible for this allowance. This is a contribution only and will not be adjusted for actual costs. |
| Studentsafe Insurance | NZD$570 | Insurance is compulsory for all international students. Australian and New Zealand Citizens/Permanent Residence are not eligible for this allowance. |
The cost of attendance is for education purposes only and is pro-rated depending on your start date. For example if you begin your study in semester two then some allowances above will be halved.
Note that the cost of attendance will be reviewed on 1st October 2012 for the 2013 academic year.
