Worldwide Universities Network
The Worldwide Universities Network comprises 18 research-intensive institutions spanning five continents. Its mission is to be one of the leading international Higher Education networks, collaborating to accelerate the creation of knowledge and to develop research leaders who will be prepared to address the significant challenges, and opportunities, of our rapidly changing world.
The WUN creates new, multilateral opportunities for international collaboration in research. The organisation uses the combined resources and intellectual power of its membership to achieve collective international objectives and to stretch international ambitions.
The value of the WUN is revealed through its core strengths, which include:
- trans-national research
- tacit knowledge
- innovation
- global collaborations
- education, and
- the sharing of resources.
Currently the WUN has over 60 research initiatives in its portfolio. More than 750 research faculty are active in these initiatives with many more taking part in conferences, workshops and virtual seminars. Network engagement enables researchers to access or attain:
- Specialist expertise, specialist equipment, and data sets
- Seed/pump priming funding
- International research funding through joint approaches
- Industry connections/industry funding
- Joint research outputs
- Career development
Many of WUN’s initiatives encourage the participation of postgraduates either through organised activities targeting early stage researchers or by providing postgraduates with tools to enable them to establish their own networks in a virtual environment.
