Fee refunds

If you have overpaid your fees, then you may wish to request a refund.

(Doctoral students, please contact the Graduate Centre for any enquiries at postgradinfo@auckland.ac.nz.)

Step 1: Check if a refund is available

Sign into Student Services Online.
On the Home page, under the Finance link, click on View Statement.
Click on Generate Statement/Invoice to access the statement. If a refund is available, a credit balance will be displayed as a credit value (eg, $975.00 CR).

Step 2: Pay any outstanding charges

In Student Services Online, if there is a Hold on your account for LDT (Library Debt) or ADT (Accommodation Debt), then you must pay these charges before requesting a refund of your tuition fees.

Or, you can authorise us to transfer all or part of the existing credit balance on your tuition fees to the outstanding Library or Accommodation charges. Just email us with the instructions.

Step 3: Check that your mailing address is correct

In Student Services Online, check that your mailing address is correct. If it’s incorrect, update your details before requesting a fee refund.

Step 4: Request the fee refund

Refunds are paid directly into a bank account. We do not issue cheques.

If your fee refund is processed, you’ll be charged a $55 refund processing fee.*

International students
If you are an international student, you may also be charged a $1,000 International Office administration fee.**

StudyLink	Refunds to StudyLink are automatically identified by the University. As a student, you do not necessarily need to do anything to make it happen. However, if you would like the refund to be processed urgently to StudyLink, then you may complete the Student Financials Enquiry Form Student Financials Enquiry Form From the topic list, choose ‘Request for refund’ and explain that you want your tuition fees to be urgently refunded to StudyLink.

Refunds to StudyLink are automatically identified by the University. As a student, you do not necessarily need to do anything to make it happen.

*In exceptional circumstances, we may not insist on the $55 refund processing fee. You must apply in writing for an exemption from this fee, outlining your exceptional circumstances. We will tell you if you’ll be exempt from the fee.

**This fee relates to refund requests from international students only. This fee is determined on a case-by-case basis by the International Office upon request for tuition fees refund.
