Username and password combination incorrect

If your username and password cannot be authenticated then you will see the error message:

What does this mean?

This means either:

  • The username you entered does not exist in our system, and/or
  • The password you entered is incorrect for the username you entered.

What is a username?

For the username you may use any of the following:

  • Your email address. This must be an email address you have previously registered with the University, or which the University has assigned to you.
  • Your University of Auckland ID number. Every person known to the University of Auckland is allocated a seven or nine digit ID Number.
  • A username is allocated to all people that have established a relationship with the University of Auckland. It contains up to four letters, followed by 3 digits, and is unique to you — for example, tuoa001.

Next steps

First check that the username you have typed in is correct.

If you did enter a valid username you should reset your password.
You will be asked to provide an email address, so that you can be directed to the appropriate mechanism for resetting your password. This differs depending on the level of access you have.
