He Kohikohinga Aroha Fund

Support Māori and Pacific Medical and Health Sciences students currently experiencing financial hardship to continue their studies.

Māori and Pacific peoples make up 15 percent and 7.4 percent of Aotearoa New Zealand’s total population respectively but only an estimated 3.2 percent (Māori) and 2 percent (Pacific) of our medical workforce.

As part of the Vision 20:20 initiative to increase the number of Māori and Pacific health professionals to 10% of the health workforce by the year 2020, the Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme (MAPAS) seeks to provide our students with a supportive environment in which to begin their pathway to a career in health.

For a small but important group of these students, additional support is necessary to prevent impact on their success and graduation. Donations to the He Kohikohinga Aroha Fund will support MAPAS students who are experiencing financial hardship to continue their studies.
