Doctoral Development

Taking advantage of the University's learning, development and career planning opportunities will set you up for success in your doctoral journey and beyond.

Doctoral Graduate Profile

The Doctoral Graduate Profile reflects the qualities which the University of Auckland seeks to impart to, and foster in, all doctoral graduates, no matter which research journey and career path you choose. We encourage you to familiarise yourself with these expectations as you embark on your doctorate.

Doctoral Training Needs Analysis

The Doctoral Training Needs Analysis is a Confirmation milestone where you create a tailored professional development plan to set you up for success during your doctorate and beyond.

You will structure your plan according to your unique research journey and career path by using the Doctoral Development Framework and seeking advice from your supervisors. Unless you are a Named Doctorate or on the Old Statute, you will complete this milestone in Wahapū.

This is not just a once-off event though; you will need to revisit your plan regularly throughout your doctorate.

Doctoral Development Framework

You will use the Doctoral Development Framework when completing your Doctoral Training Needs Analysis, and you'll keep referring to it in the years ahead. It's a helpful, holistic resource which will guide you throughout your doctoral journey as you navigate the many programmes and pathways available to you..

The Doctoral Development Framework contains six development areas, each with four key skills categories, and a wide variety of ideas and resources to support your development. Click on the links below to learn more:
