I chose to study at the University of Auckland because R (Programming language) was invented here in the Statistics Department.
Originally from the southern region China, TianLi has always been passionate about data science. She observes that with data becoming more and more important across all industries in recent times, the digital revolution will start from the data science area.
When she decided to pursue postgraduate study, she chose the University of Auckland because of the reputation of its Statistics Department, being the home of eminent statisticians who developed R programming language.
She completed the Master of Professional Studies in Data Science and now works as Senior Insights Analyst with a major banking and financial services provider based in Auckland, New Zealand.
TianLi says there were two things she liked the most while studying at the University of Auckland: the supportive lecturers, and the cultural diversity.
She appreciated on how ‘nice and patient’ her lecturers were and how they were always willing to help her to achieve her goal.
“We had students from many different countries and I learned to cope with different people from different backgrounds and cultures. That's the most valuable asset for me.”
