Social media community guidelines
The University is committed to balancing the rights and responsibilities of free speech, academic freedom, human rights and health, safety and wellbeing as part of providing a safe, inclusive and equitable place to study and work.
We encourage active debate and free expression of ideas and opinions on the University’s social media channels while reserving the right to remove content or comments for the safety and security of our audiences.
Users should be
- Transparent - honest about who you are
- Accurate - double-check before you post
- Maintain confidentiality - about the University, its students, alumni or employees
- Respectful - respect your and others’ privacy and copyright
The University reserves the right to hide, delete, or report content that includes
- Hate speech, discrimination, or personal attacks
- Harassment, bullying, or threats of violence
- Spam, commercial promotion, or repetitive posts
- Misinformation (especially about health, safety, or University policy)
- Profanity or explicit content
- Sharing of private information
- Content promoting alcohol, drugs or nudity
- Use of obscene or profane language
- Content that breaches New Zealand law including:
- Comments advocating illegal activity
- Defamatory or derogatory comments or links to derogatory comments about named people or groups of people
- Disclosure of information that is confidential by law or regulation
- Posts violating copyrights or trademarks
