Bomb threat
Keep Calm, Keep Safe, Take Action
Preservation of life is paramount
If you receive a phone call with a bomb threat
- Dialogue with the caller is important, if possible, as information that may be gained from the caller can help assess the current situation and help police with further inquiries
- If a threat to life is immediate (i.e. detonation is imminent) commence evacuation and call the Police (111)
- If possible, attract the attention of another staff member and have someone raise the alarm
- Try and complete the Bomb Threat Checklist (below)
- If safe, try to keep the caller talking for as long as possible. Let them finish their message before asking questions
- Note the exact wording of the threat
- Contact (in this order):
- The Police (111)
- Security: Use the UoA Alert app or call 0800 373 7550. If the threat relates to a device in your building, do not use a mobile phone or allow anyone to use one as these could potentially trigger a device
- The senior person on duty and inform them of the situation
- Follow the instructions given by the Police / Security
- If evacuation is directed, leave the building immediately, restrict access to others, and assemble at a safe distance away from the building
If you receive a bomb threat by other means (social media/written threat etc…)
