Key research support contacts for external partners and University researchers.

Overall responsibility for the University’s research rests with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, who chairs the University of Auckland Research Committee (UARC) and is on the Board of Directors for Auckland UniServices Ltd. The Director of Research and Innovation, who leads Te Puna Tiketike, Research and Innovation Office, reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation.
Researchers seeking guidance and project support should contact their Faculty/Institute Research Services Team (FIRST) representative, who can co-ordinate with other research support teams.
FIRST
These faculty-based teams are the first point of contact for researchers. They assist with research budgets, funding, policies and processes.

Contracts and agreements
The Research Grants and Contracts Team negotiates and executes research and consulting contracts, and any ancillary documentation (e.g. subcontracts, NDAs, DTAs) with public and private agencies in New Zealand and internationally.

Contract reporting and financial administration
The Pokapū Whakahaere Rangahau, Research Operations Centre Team (ROC), supports financial and research administration and reporting.

Te Puna Tiketike | Research and Innovation Office (RIO)
RIO is responsible for strategic initiatives and core research operations. It has multiple service units that provide guidance on ethics, integrity, infrastructure, policy, Vision Mātauranga, research impact, animal research, and researcher development.
Te Puna Tiketike also administers internal University funds and awards, and competitive external funding/grant rounds.

Research Operations Centre (ROC)
A centralised financial administration team for research projects: ROC, part of the financial services division, manages the financial administration of research projects. Each faculty has a ROC adviser, but researchers should initially contact them through their FIRST team.

UniServices
UniServices, a University-owned company, supports commercialisation, industry engagement, and intellectual property (IP). This team provides:
- Entrepreneurial, commercialisation and intellectual property (IP) training
- Help to connect researchers to relevant industry and government organisations via expert contacts

Centre for eResearch (CeR)
Research computing and data services: CeR supports and enables researchers through research data services, advanced research compute options, visualisation and immersive technologies, customised solutions delivered in partnership with researchers, digital research skills workshops and more.
Library Research Services Team | Ngā Ratonga Manaaki Rangahau
Part of Te Kahu Tauira, Student and Scholarly Services, this team assists researchers with publishing, open access, research profiles, and metrics.

School of Graduate Studies (SGS)
SGS facilitates support and services for doctoral candidates and their supervisors across the institution. This includes overseeing doctoral development programmes and supervisor training accreditation.
