Soundtrack to your studies - 1976

Campus sounds from the seventies.

The orientation programme in 1976 included newly-formed Hello Sailor and How’s Your Father. Ex-Split Enz member Geoffrey Chunn also put together a group to perform. All the action was covered in Craccum, with photos by Murray Cammick who would go on to start Rip It Up magazine. Unfortunately they printed his photo of Hello Sailor upside-down…

The nationwide Student Arts Council brought over a run of overseas acts for tours through the country’s universities in 1976. The run of touring artists included: the bluesmen Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee; comedy-rock duo Flo & Eddie and last but certainly-not-least the legendary rock group Canned Heat.

The most popular international album of the year was ABBA’s Best of Abba, and the band had three No.1 singles that year - 'Money, money, money', 'Dancing Queen,' and 'Fernando.'
