Soundtrack to your studies - 1992
Campus sounds from the nineties.

Students could buy a $30 Orientation Card and get free entry to all the events during O-Week, which culminated in a show at the Powerstation by ABBA tribute band, Bjorn Again (yes, really!). Plenty of local bands were involved too, especially at the Uni Cafe which hosted two of Flying Nun’s top acts of the time: Snapper (supported by Freak Power) and The Bats. There was also nod to the past with Chris Knox, Graham Brazier, and Fagan played a solo-set line-up earlier in the week.

Meanwhile down in the city, card-holders could get entry to the Disco Fantastic party at Alfies. Orientation also took over the Rudman Gardens area that used to lie between the Quad and Princes Street for a gig by MC OJ & the Rhythm Slave supported by Riot Riddum Sound System. These days Otis Frizzell (aka MC OJ) is more known for his Taco Truck food empire and graf art, while Mark James (aka the Rhythm Slave) is a DJ and touring MC for Fat Freddy’s Drop, but in those days it was all about those party-raps.
The highest selling albums of the year were the Commitments soundtrack and Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, while the singles charts were dominated by ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ by Billy Ray Cyrus and ‘November Rain’ by Guns’n’Roses.
